Passport and visa

A visa is not required for American citizens entering Canada. However, a valid passport is now required when crossing the Canada / U.S. border.

Taxes and duties

The government of Canada applies a federal goods and services tax (GST) of 5%. A provincial sales tax (PST or TVQ) is added to the GST. A municipal tax may also be applied on hotel rooms.

In Quebec, the GST and the PST are refundable on some services for international meetings where at least 75% of the delegates are from outside Canada. In Ontario, only the federal tax is refundable.

Province of Quebec:
