JPdL Destination & Conference Management
- Monthly Newsletter
Bonjour !
Exciting times are ahead of us as JPdL Québec is taking part in a new ISO (International Standards Organization) project committee. Indeed, this new committee is to develop an international standard (ISO 20121) promoting the sustainable management of events. The aim is to harmonize the events industry’s global effort to tackle its negative environmental and social impact.
More news on the front for JPdL Québec, we were recipient of the 2008 VIKTOR Touch Service Award – awarded last December by the renowned US based, VIKTOR Incentives and Meetings - by exceeding their criteria of exceptional service!
And now, I personally invite you to experience Québec City and see what this European flare destination has to offer… Since the 400th anniversary of its founding, we can’t stop celebrating…venez célébrer avec nous!
Á bientôt!

This winter in Québec City:
The Hôtel de Glace (Ice Hotel) celebrates its 10th anniversary - from January 4 to April 4, 2010 – you will have a chance to live a unique and magical experience. Whether for sleeping, visiting, take a corporate event, or get married, the Hôtel de Glace is the place to be this winter.
The big new addition this year is the igloo…evoking an act of memory, honoring our northern roots, the Hôtel de Glace innovates once again by creating a 25 feet high and 40 feet in diameter igloo! The igloo, a media room, will hold projections, conferences and exhibitions dedicated to the Hôtel de Glace’s 10 years anniversary.

The Red Bull Crashed Ice returns to Québec City for its fifth continuous year!
It was back in 2000 that this new sport was born…a breathtaking new competition! The first one in Sweden where athletes from all around the world flocked to Stockholm for the inaugural race – wearing hockey skates, they battle down a 1000 feet long ice track filled with gap jumps, ice steps and razor-sharp hairpin turns! Since then there have been 14 races in eight countries. Hundreds of thousands of spectators have watched the races on the ever-more advanced tracks. For the last 5 years Québec City has been the host of this “insane downhill ice-skating”– this year the one-of-a-kind 1800 feet urban ice track will wind and dive its way through the city’s stunning landscape. The race will start under the imposing gaze of the luxurious Fairmont Château Frontenac and conclude next to the icy currents of the Saint Lawrence River. Dig out your protective gear and sharpen your blades, Red Bull Crashed Ice is back again!
March 18-20, 2010 don’t miss it!

Cirque du Soleil – From 2009 through to 2013 a fascinating concept created by Cirque du Soleil highlighting street performers is presented from June 24 to September 13. Entitled ‘The Dream Continues’ the show runs from Wednesday to Sunday and lasts about one hour. Le Moulin à Images |
Le Moulin à Images - The Image Mill was created as part of the festivities surrounding the 400th anniversary of Québec City by Robert Lepage and Ex Machina. Following the success of the 2008 edition, the work has been extended for another five years. 20% of the content will be redesigned, improved or enhanced with new material in 2011 and 2013.
The Image Mill is an architectural projection on the largest screen ever done, on the grain silos of the Québec Harbour, 600 feet wide by 100 feet high! Discover the fascinating history of Québec City with its upheavals, its controversies, and its great political and popular moments. |
Aurora Borealis – Aurora Borealis is a permanent lighting installation inspired by the colors of the northern lights. Robert Lepage and Ex Machina will again exploit the lines of the Old Port grain silos, this impressive architecture structure, by permanently lighting them every night, for five years, from dusk until 11:30 pm. The designers used green technologies that need very little maintenance; all the lights used are LED (Light-Emitting Diode) technology, known for its low energy consumption, its longevity and reliability. |
