Toronto, Canada... A World within a City!

Toronto Harbourfront

Toronto: year after year, considered by none other than the United Nations to be the most multicultural city in the world. More languages are spoken here than anywhere else, and with over 6000 restaurants, bars and clubs keeping the city vibrant every day of the week there are lots of opportunities to use those languages.

Toronto: a hub of transportation, with more than 60% of the US population within a 90 minute direct flight to Toronto…and Europe is just 6 to 8 hours away.

Toronto: a city of grand size and human scale, safe yet bustling; a cosmopolitan downtown surrounded by quiet neighbourhoods filled with culture, nature and adventure.

Toronto's Heart... And Stomach!

Toronto's 6,000 restaurants represent over 200 ethnicities. From high-end Canadian fare to on-the-go Dim Sum, Toronto is known to have it all. However, what really has the foodies coming back for more are the one-of-a-kind hidden gems scattered all across Toronto. The St. Lawrence Market is one such gem! The St. Lawrence Market has been around for over two centuries, and there is more to it than meets the eye.

Located close to Toronto’s waterfront, in the centre of the historic Old Town Toronto, sit three buildings that have served as Toronto's social centre, City Hall and marketplace throughout the city's history. Over 120 specialty merchants and vendors await you at Toronto's premier market at Front and Jarvis Streets.

The North Market started the tradition of a Saturday Farmers' Market in 1803 while the South Market has been known for the variety and freshness of its fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, grains, baked goods, dairy products and restaurants since 1901. Still today, Toronto's premier market is a tradition with savvy shoppers throughout Metro Toronto.

The St. Lawrence Market has a lot to offer groups looking for an interactive tour option. Not only is the 200-year history of the building fascinating and informative, guests also get to sample various indigenous food items while interacting with vendors who have worked the market for three generations.

While embracing the legacy of its past, the St. Lawrence Market has made every effort to keep with the trends of the future. The Market Kitchen, St. Lawrence Market’s new cooking school and event venue, continues the tradition of delivering good food with state-of-the-art Celebrity Chef Series kitchen appliances. While the space lends itself well to cooking demonstrations, group lunches and dinners, it is also a great space for team building activities.

JPdL developed and executed a unique team building activity for 150 delegates in July 2009 in and around the St. Lawrence Market neighborhood. From Sushi making challenges in the Market Kitchen to solving puzzles to finding vendors with food samples, this activity had all participants involved and working together. Many elements came together to make this event a huge success. But at the core of it all was St. Lawrence Market with its fascinating history, unique spaces, thriving market and friendly people.
